For this year in photography I have had a great experience. Not just from the people in the class or the coolest teacher around (Chhaaggss) but also everything I learned in the class itself. At the beginning I didn't know what I expected the class to be like but it turned out to be better than anything I could have imaged. From learning new photoshop tricks to amazing ways to turn a photo into something beautiful just by changing a few angles. I had many favorite moments and projects in this class but my top three would have to be the gradient portrait, glitch art and the light paintings. The gradient portrait combined taking a photo, photoshop and painting all in one which I enjoyed a lot. Also I believe mine came out pretty well. This project consisted of so many different skills and techniques I believe it was the most skill needed project. First we needed to have a good photo we took to use. Then needed to change it around and fix it up in photoshop. Ending with doing hands on art, painting. It really used a wide set variety of techniques that all played an important part in making the assignment what it is today. Next was glitch art, which once I learned it, it was extremely easy yet made pictures so different. Our last project, light paintings, was definitely one of the best. It made us think of creative and cool patterns and ideas while also having a hands on experience all together as a class. Not even the light projects I created, but everyone else's were so awesome to watch happen. This project was also the project I connected to the most because I believe people could really express themselves. Even though we had a short amount of time and many people to get through I really think the light paintings created were sparked by the minds of all of us. Over all this class has been an imaginative journey that I have very much loved and would go through again. Art has always been something i'm interested in and this class has just peaked my interest even more. From shadow photography at the beginning of the year to the kaleidoscope project, everything I am proud of. I truly believe this portfolio shows my escapade throughout the year in a small period seven photography class.
For the light painting project, all of us in the class bounced ideas of each other. I had many ideas on my own but one of the best parts of this project was everyone else would help make your idea better. This was definitely one of my all time favorites because of the extreme ideas and things we all did for it. I wish we had more time to do other light paintings but the ones I got to do I was happy with.
These images are for my Forced Perspective project. The first is an ice cream which looks huge compared to the person, just by moving the person back, the cone looks bigger than them. For the second image its basically the same thing, a small drawing of a mask, held at an angle, with a person farther away to make it look like the person is wearing the mask. The next two are both images of a person putting their legs up against a tree. When you flip the image it looks like the person is sitting and climbing the tree. This picture is my surreal image in photoshop. I decided to take a picture of a book, open, and put wild flowers coming out of it. I loved this idea because books can hold so much life and beauty, which people in general adore. I really enjoy this picture because I think it turned out very well.
For both these pictures I created art with things that were not meant for art. Such as a street sign that means do not enter, which I made say above the influence instead. Or a kids toy which I made look like a face with simple googly eyes.
This image is my butterfly effect, which is when you take an image and reflect it four times, creating a pattern. In photoshop I duplicated the image and flipped it the opposite way. It was fairly easy and cool to know how to do in the future. This image is my kaleidoscope effect, which is when you take an image and make it into triangles and reflect it many different times, creating a pattern. This effect was fairly harder than the butterfly effect because I needed to duplicate the layers many more times and cut the image in half multiple times. I really like the outcome of this picture and think it makes a great photo.
For my testing of glitch art I used a picture I took on top of the highest mountain at Smugglers Notch Vermont to ski. As you look at the pictures from left to right they get more and more glitched as I continued to try different pasting and cuts in the process. I really enjoyed using glitch art and think its very cool and easy to use to make interesting pictures. From a already beautiful picture to strange yet unique picture that catches peoples eye.
For my project I used a picture I took of my cat Stewie and used the amaro filter. The first picture on the left is original and the second picture is the filtered picture. I then tried to make the original look like the filtered picture by using Adobe Photoshop to do so. I found out trying to make your own filters is harder than it seems and has a lot of little things to make up the big picture. My photoshopped pictures are below in order of what I believe is the closest to the amaro filter. My photographer was William Eugene Smith, one of the masters of photojournalism. He used a technique to create an innovative flash that allowed him to produce indoor photographs that looked like they had natural light. He got into photos when his father committed suicide and the news corrupted the story so he wanted to do his own work that was all true. He dedicated himself to showing the world realism and actual things that happen such as war, sadness, suffering, laughter etc. He was a true photographer who impacted the world with his excellent and powerful photos. His picturesMy PicturesI took this photo of myself a long time ago but used it for this project. First I put it in photoshop and changed the gradient to find colors to use for later on. I liked the more purple colors so thats what I chose. Next I projected the picture onto the wall and traced the lines of my face and shirt. Lastly I painted the colors I picked onto the photo and this is the final project. I really enjoyed this project and all the steps we had to take to do it. We used a lot of different styles used for art today which was great. I would definitely do this project again.
For this project I went around school taking pictures of things that looked like letters in my name. After I found all my photos I used Adobe Illustrator to arrange them next to each other to spell out my name. Hopefully you can see clearly the name Kristen in the photos. For the second photo I did the same thing as before but I went around the school finding every letter in the alphabet. I have 18 photos of things that look like letters and then 8 photos of actual letters. I enjoyed seeing the different ways you can create letters and the creativity needed to complete this project.
